Thank you for taking the time to write this. I've been following this story since its beginning. I'm happy to know that your two main antagonists are retiring and hope that they will spend their time practicing self-care rather than the petty and corrupt politics they engaged in at the SOA.
It seems that minority sensitivities are now so inflamed that it's no longer possible to write with honesty. I pursued most of the links in this article, including a fascinating description of Clanchy's interactions teaching a couple of 11 year-old autistic girls. She has been slammed for identifyng communication difficulties that are widely acknowledged by autistic people themselves as being a problem for them -- not just for "neurotypicals" figuring out how to cope with it.
So are only autistic people themselves now allowed to comment on this?
And there's no corresponding acknowledgement of how much Clanchy also praised the unusual abilities, creativity and perseverance of her autistic pupils: so unlike other female pupils preoccupied by make-up.
Btw my father (who died 13 years aged 91) was, I'm 99.9% sure, a clear case of high-functioning Asperger's (though this term is no longer in approved use for those on the ASD spectrum). And from what I now know about ASD (which is highly heritable) I can now identify some autistic traits in myself. You might say that a concern for accuracy, balance and fairness is one of them.
